Adopters, fosters, volunteers and donations needed
***Adoption fees waived for large dogs***
EL PASO, Texas—Due to inclement weather, the Department of Animal Services has closed down the outdoor kennels located at the Animal Services Center (5001 Fred Wilson), and has moved dogs to a temporary offsite shelter at Sunrise Park (3800 Sunrise Ave).
The Animal Services Center is currently housing a large animal population as the department continues to experience a longer-than-usual peak season, and space remains limited for incoming animals.
The offsite shelter will be used as a temporary housing facility for dogs during the next week, while temperatures remain below freezing overnight. In an effort to continue our goal of becoming a “no-kill” shelter, the department is calling for support from the community to adopt, foster, volunteer and donate.
ADOPT
Pets will be available for adoption at the Sunrise Park Shelter between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. through Saturday, January 5, and adoption fees for all large dogs over 6 months old will be waived. The Sunrise Park Shelter will observe holiday hours on December 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will be closed on January 1.
FOSTER
For those not looking to adopt at this time, fostering a pet is a great option. By fostering, families will be able to care for a shelter pet temporarily, which will free-up space for other adoptable pets at the shelter. To learn more about our foster program, visit www.epanimalservices.com/foster
VOLUNTEER
To help care for pets both at the Animal Services Center and at the temporary offsite shelter, the Department is putting out a call for volunteers to assist with walking dogs. Volunteers 18 years or older can learn more about how to get started by emailing epasvolunteer@elpasotexas.gov.
DONATE
Another way to support the shelter’s lifesaving efforts is to donate much-needed items for the offsite shelter:
• Stainless Steel Bowls
• Wire Crates
• Towels and Blankets (new or gently used)
• Dog Treats
Animal Services is hopeful that with help from the community, the center will reduce the animal population and find forever homes for the hundreds of pets in our care. For more information on El Paso Animal Services, visit our website www.epanimalservices.com.
