Victim Rescued and Thriving with New Family
EL PASO, Texas― El Paso Animal Services announces the arrest of Erika Trevino in a significant animal cruelty case.
On June 22, 2024, the El Paso Police Department took Trevino into custody for an outstanding warrant related to cruelty to non-livestock.
The El Paso Animal Services Protection Field Division and El Paso Police Department Animal Cruelty Investigations unit conducted the cruelty investigation.
In August 2023, El Paso Animal Protection Officers and Detectives with the El Paso Police Animal Cruelty Unit investigated an abandonment case where a dog, now known as Eva, was abandoned in a ditch, injured, and left to die. Through a thorough investigation, Detectives could identify the suspect(s) in this case. The case is currently in litigation, and no further details can be released at this time.
In her new home, Eva found love and comfort. She is able to take long walks, enjoy playful romps in the lush green grass, and loves cozy cuddles with her new family. Eva is healing and thriving. She is a testament to the resilience of animals and the power of compassion.
“This arrest marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to combat animal cruelty in our community,” said Animal Protection Field Manager Gina Ramirez. “We are committed to ensuring that those who mistreat animals are held accountable for their actions. We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the handling Investigator with the El Paso Police Departments’ Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit who played a crucial role in the seeking justice for Eva and seeking prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.”
Residents play a crucial role in our efforts to combat animal cruelty. The community is asked to report any suspected cases of animal abuse or neglect by calling 311 or 911 for cruelty in progress. Everyone’s vigilance and willingness to provide contact information and relevant statements can help bring justice to the victims of animal cruelty.
Together, we can ensure that all animals in our community are treated with the kindness and respect they deserve.
