EL PASO, Texas— As Daylight Savings Time approaches, El Paso Animal Services and its Resource Rover Team are putting the spotlight on the “Straylight Savings” campaign, a seasonal reminder for pet owners to “check the chip” — ensuring their pets’ microchip information is registered and up-to-date.
This proactive step significantly increases the likelihood of a safe reunion if a pet is ever lost.
This year, over 19,700 pets have entered El Paso Animal Services shelters, with many already microchipped but missing current contact details, making reunions difficult. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, microchipped pets are more than 50 percent more likely to be returned to their families — but only when linked to accurate, up-to-date information.
Updating Your Pet’s Microchip Information is Easy:
- Get your pet’s microchip number by visiting your veterinarian or stopping by any El Paso Fire Department station for a quick scan.
- Visit PetMicrochipLookup.org to find the chip’s manufacturer and follow the instructions to update your contact information.
- Consider extra security by registering your pet’s microchip with free databases like foundanimals.org or petcolovelost.org.
If Your Pet Needs a Microchip:
Microchips can be implanted by your veterinarian for about $25, or you can check the El Paso Animal Services calendar for upcoming free microchip clinics.
