Event Seeks Foster Families, Community Education, and Donation Support

WHAT:        “Kitten Shower,” Community Event to Prepare for Kitten Season

WHEN:        11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025

WHERE:      RAD Retrocade East, 9910 Montana Ave.

El Paso Animal Services, in partnership with Friends of El Paso Animal Services, invites the community to a fun-filled “Kitten Shower”—an educational and interactive event aimed at preparing for kitten season. Attendees will learn about fostering, lifesaving programs, and ways to support vulnerable kittens through donations.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at RAD Retrocade East, 9910 Montana Ave.

“Many well-meaning residents bring kittens to the shelter, thinking they’ve been abandoned, when in reality, their mother is likely nearby caring for them,” said Terry Kebschull, Director of El Paso Animal Services. “Unfortunately, this ‘kitnapping’ separates kittens from their best chance at survival—their mom. That’s why we rely on foster caregivers to help keep these fragile babies alive, happy, and healthy when they arrive at the shelter without mom.”

The Kitten Shower will provide essential information on fostering, the Community Cat Program, and other lifesaving initiatives. Families interested in fostering will have the opportunity to sign up on-site with guidance from staff and volunteers. Friends of El Paso Animal Services will also be collecting much-needed donations from the Kitten Shower ‘registry’ to support the care of orphaned kittens.

In addition to education and fostering opportunities, guests can enjoy games, arts and crafts, refreshments, educational demonstrations, and even a chance to pet and play with adorable foster kittens.

El Paso Animal Services urges the community to leave kittens under two months old where they are found unless they are sick or injured, as their mother is likely nearby and their best chance of survival depends on her care.
