PetSmart Charities® Donation to Expand Animal Services’ Spay/Neuter Efforts
EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Animal Services will soon expand its medical operations through a generous donation from PetSmart Charities. The non-profit, and leading funder of animal welfare in North America, will donate much-needed surgical equipment and supplies that will allow Animal Services to perform more spay/neuter surgeries at one time.
The donation, valued at $125,430, includes items like: surgical tables, holding kennels, an autoclave sterilizer and surgical kits, among other medical items. By expanding the department’s medical capabilities, Animal Services will be able to perform additional spay/neuter procedures during Community Cat events and public surgery days.
“We are so pleased and honored to be working with El Paso Animal Services to help address the problem of too many pets that don’t have families to love them,” said David Haworth, DVM, Ph.D. and president of PetSmart Charities. “We are committed to preventing pet homelessness, and by supporting the expansion of El Paso Animal Services’ spay/neuter efforts, thousands of unplanned litters will be prevented throughout the El Paso area by addressing pet overpopulation from the start.”
“PetSmart Charities has already had a big impact in El Paso, and this donation is another example of their commitment to support El Paso’s lifesaving mission,” said Paula Powell, El Paso Animal Services Director. “Many of the animals that enter our Center come in as stray or unplanned litters. Through proactive spay/neuter efforts we can prevent litters from ever being a challenge, allowing us to focus on the hundreds of other animals already in our care.”
El Paso City Council formally accepted PetSmart Charities’ donation last month. The medical equipment and supplies are expected to arrive and be put to use in the coming weeks.
