Adopters, Fosters, and Donations Needed; Fees Waived for Lost Pets.
EL PASO, Texas-El Paso Animal Services is sending out an SOS (Support Our Shelter) call to the community, asking for help to clear the shelter. In an effort to continue the City of El Paso’s goal of becoming a “no-kill” facility, Animal Services is asking the borderland community to adopt, foster, donate, and/or reconnect with their lost pets.
The Animal Services Center is currently housing a large kitten population along with a substantial dog population. With the help of the community, Animal Services will be able to decrease their population during the peak months.
ADOPT
On Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25, adoption fees will be $1 as part of Animal Services’ “Dollar Pet Adoption Event.” Adoption hours will be extended from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days. Animal Services is hopeful that the reduced fees will result in more than a hundred animals being adopted.
FIND YOUR LOST PET / IMPOUNDMENT FEES WAIVED
In an effort to reconnect as many lost pets as possible, Animal Services will be waiving impoundment fees ($60 per dog/cat) for any animal picked up by their owner. Daily handling fees will also be waived. Fees will be waived for the remainder of May and the entire month of June. Waived fees do not include quarantine animals. Fees still apply for licensing services.
FOSTER
For pet lovers not looking to adopt at this time, fostering a pet is a great option. By fostering, families will be able to care for a shelter pet temporarily, which will free up space for other adoptable pets at the shelter. Families will be asked to foster an animal for a minimum of two weeks, but are welcomed to foster a pet even longer if they would like.
DONATE
For those looking to support Animal Services’ life-saving efforts, but may not have space for a new friend at home, donations are a great way to help. The following items help support Animal Services’ various programs and initiatives:
- Canned puppy and kitten food
- Dry dog and cat food
- Kitten powdered formula
- Towels and blankets (new or gently used)
- Crates and pet carriers

LICENSE YOUR PET / UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION
No one ever wants to lose a pet. So in order to help Animal Services reconnect lost pets with their owners, the Department is encouraging the public to license their pet. The annual license is $12.50. If your pet is already licensed, Animal Services is encouraging pet owners to update their contact information if they have moved or changed their phone number.
There are many ways to help make El Paso a “no-kill” community, but one thing is certain—the community’s involvement is definitely needed if El Paso is going to become a “no-kill” city in 2020.
